Biography

"Our instruments meet like long-lost relatives, and they have plenty to discuss."

Pengetős Trió

They play related instruments, yet their program is exceptionally unique, rooted in the previously unexplored harmonies of these three instruments. The foundation of their repertoire is authentic folk music, which they reimagine with openness, creativity, and respect, shaping it into their own image. Their music is characterized by virtuosity, innovation, and tradition.

Since their formation, they have performed on numerous stages in Hungary and abroad. In 2017, they represented Hungary and Hungarian folk music at the Euroradio Folk Festival (CZ) and Festa Ungherese – Hungarian Festival (IT), and in 2018 at the Musik der Völker Festival (A). In 2018, their piece Gergelyes was featured on the Hungarian Music Selection ’18, a promotional album prepared for WOMEX. In 2019, they performed at the Czech Music Crossroads – International Showcase Festival (CZ) and the Bratislava World Music Festival (SK); in 2021, at EFEX – English Folk Expo; and in 2024, at the Haapavesi Folk Music Festival (FI). In 2020, they were selected for the Szimpla Lemming Program, chosen as one of the top 12 ensembles out of 119 by a professional jury. In 2020–2021, the ensemble was part of the International Portfolio of the House of Traditions (Hagyományok Háza). Their album Este nálunk was released by Fonó Budai Zeneház in 2020.

All three members are dedicated practitioners and advocates of Hungarian folk music; they perform regularly on stages in Hungary and abroad and teach authentic Hungarian folk music at elementary, secondary, and higher education levels.

In the trio's music, plucked folk instruments used in Hungarian-speaking regions come together, showcasing an ancient element in their very way of being played—the act of striking a stretched string. The resonating strings transport us to an old world, where we can sense the unique soundscape of the music played by people living in small villages.

Program for Children

Program for Children

In this experience-focused educational program, the ensemble is joined by folk dance educators. Through an interactive instrument presentation, traditional games, and a lively dance celebration, children can immerse themselves in the harmonious unity of folk music, folk songs, and folk dance.
